Important for winter travel: Independence Pass, the short route between I-70 and Aspen, closes from around early November until late May. Through the winter every vehicle goes the long way, west on I-70 through Glenwood Canyon and then south on Highway 82 through Carbondale and Basalt. Plan for 4 to 4.5 hours in ski season, longer in bad weather.

The summer route over Independence Pass tops out at 12,095 feet and is genuinely spectacular, but it is narrow, has tight switchbacks and is not suitable for large vehicles. We choose the route based on the season, the conditions and the vehicle.

Aspen Transportation FAQs

How far is Aspen from Denver International Airport? About 220 miles, typically 3.5 to 4.5 hours depending on traffic, weather and route. We recommend a private SUV for the most comfortable long-distance transfer.

Is Independence Pass open in winter? No. It closes around early November and reopens late May. Through the winter all traffic goes west on I-70 through Glenwood Canyon then south on Highway 82, which adds time. We plan for it.

Is there enough room for my ski gear? Yes. Our luxury SUVs and Transit vans are selected for cargo capacity and take multiple ski bags and luggage sets easily.

Do you provide transportation from Aspen to Snowmass Village? Yes. We offer local transfers between Aspen and Snowmass, as well as wait and return service for dinners, shopping or events in the valley.

Do you pick up from Aspen airport? Yes. Aspen/Pitkin County Airport is four miles from downtown, roughly a ten minute transfer. We meet your flight at arrivals.

What if my flight into Aspen gets diverted? It happens in winter. If you are diverted to Denver or Grand Junction, call us and we will arrange ground transport from wherever you land.

How far in advance should I book? For ski season, X Games week and holidays, book as early as possible. Outside peak periods 48 hours is usually enough.

It was hands down the most convenient way to attend a concert. We were picked up at our hotel and had plenty of time to tailgate prior to the show. When it was over we were picked up at the designated meeting area and driven back to our hotel in Cherry Creek. Highly recommend if you are looking for a stress free Red Rocks experience!!
