SUV or Van? Choosing the Right Vehicle for Your Group

Quick answer

Choose a luxury SUV for up to 6 passengers, and a 14-passenger van for 7 or more. The crossover sits around six or seven people: below it an SUV is more comfortable and often cheaper, above it a single van beats splitting the group across two SUVs. Luggage and ski gear push the decision toward the van sooner.

Pick the vehicle by the group, not the other way round. Here is how to get it right the first time.

Which fits your group size?

Up to 6 people, an SUV. Seven or more, a van. That is the simple rule, and group size is the first thing to settle before anything else.

1 to 6Luxury SUVComfortable, efficient, premium feel
7 to 1414-passenger vanEveryone together, one vehicle, one fee

How does luggage change the answer?

Heavy luggage or ski gear pushes you toward the van earlier. Six people with carry-ons fit an SUV comfortably. Six people with ski bags and boot bags are better in a van.

Gear takes the space a passenger would, so a group that fits by headcount may not fit once the boot is loaded. Always factor the bags.

Give us the headcount and the luggage. We match the vehicle to the trip.

Is one van cheaper than two SUVs?

Usually, yes. Once a group needs two SUVs, a single van is normally the cheaper and simpler choice, with one driver and one vehicle instead of two of each.

It also keeps everyone together. Two SUVs means two groups travelling separately, which defeats the point of booking transport for a group in the first place.

What about comfort?

For a small group, an SUV feels more premium: leather, quieter cabin, easier in and out. For a larger group, the van is the comfortable choice simply because nobody is squeezed.

Five adults in an SUV is relaxed. Five adults plus luggage squeezed into one is not. Match the vehicle to the load, not just the headcount.

Frequently asked questions

How many fit in your SUVs?

Up to 6 passengers plus luggage in a luxury SUV. Fewer with large ski gear.

Can you mix vehicles for a big group?

Yes. A van plus an SUV, or two vans, coordinated to arrive together.

Which is better for an airport run?

Whichever fits the group plus the luggage. An SUV for a family of four, a van for a group of eight with suitcases.
