Ski Season Booking Windows: What Sells Out and When

Quick answer

Book Christmas and New Year three to four months ahead, Presidents Day weekend and spring break around three months, and ordinary January weekends four to six weeks out. Midweek travel outside the holidays often books comfortably at 48 hours. Vans sell out before SUVs every time, because there are fewer of them and groups book them.

Ski transport does not sell out gradually. It sells out in blocks, tied to the same handful of weeks every season.

Which weeks sell out first?

Christmas through New Year sells out first, every year, usually by early autumn. Presidents Day weekend follows, then spring break in March.

Why do vans go first?

There are simply fewer of them. Every operator runs more SUVs than 14-passenger vans, while group bookings all compete for the same small pool of larger vehicles.

So if your group needs a van, treat the booking window as roughly a month earlier than the table above. A group of ten in February should be booking in November, not January.

Booking early costs nothing

Same flat rate whenever you book. No surge pricing on peak weeks.

What about powder days?

Demand spikes within hours of a storm forecast, often with less than 48 hours notice. Everyone in Denver decides to go at once.

Powder days are the one situation where booking ahead is genuinely impossible, so call rather than booking online. Availability changes hour by hour and a phone call gets a real answer.

Book the return leg at the same time

Return availability is usually tighter than outbound, because everyone leaves a peak week on the same two days.

Sunday afternoon out of Summit County and the Vail valley is the single busiest window of the week. Booking both directions together takes one phone call and removes the problem entirely.

Frequently asked questions

Does booking early cost more or less?

Neither. Our rate is the same whenever you book, and we do not apply surge pricing on peak weeks. Booking early secures the vehicle, not a better price.

Can I book same-day?

Often yes, outside peak weeks. Call rather than booking online, since same-day availability moves quickly.

When is the quietest time to ski Colorado?

Early December before the holidays, mid January after MLK weekend, and April after the first week. All three are noticeably easier for booking anything.
